Luberegg Castle belongs to the most romantic and extraordinary buildings in the region, located just opposite of Melk. Formerly an imperial country palace, it is now a popular location for weddings and celebrations and is home to three stylishly renovated romantic suites.
Luberegg – a place with history
Luberegg was erected shortly before 1787 by Joseph von Fürnberg, the famous Danube marine admiral and timber merchant from the Waldviertel.
In 1795, Fürnberg was bankrupt. From this time on, Luberegg Castle finally belonged to the imperial-royal family whose head was Emperor Franz II.
Between 1803 and 1811, Lubergg was used as a summer residence by Franz II.
In 1919, French soldiers settled down in Luberegg. In 1919, Luberegg was expropriated together with other Habsburg properties and then managed by the Austrian federal forests.
After the elaborate renovation of the already plundered and very derelict building, the castle became the site of a museum dedicated to Emperor Franz II (does not exist anymore) and a first-class restaurant.
